JOB SUMMARY:

Provides Occupational Therapy services as mandated by child’s Individual Education Plan (IEP) and/or Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP) and provides therapy and conducts appropriate assessments that address physical, cognitive, communication, psychosocial, and sensory development in the areas of fine motor and activities of daily living skills. Completes all mandated and accompanying paperwork with additional duties to include supervision of COTA if indicated.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assurances:

  • Assure receipt of IEP for all children on caseload
  • Assure provision of services as mandated by the IEP
  • Assure that before services are provided, there is a signed prescription on file by indicated medical personnel
  • Assure that session notes for each child are completed in the EasyTrac Database System in a timely manner
  • Assure that all indicated paperwork is uploaded into TEAMS and filed in the students’ charts
  • Assure knowledge of appropriate coding re Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) and International Classification of Diseases (ICD) codes
  • Assure that license and certifications are consistently renewed and current

Occupational Therapy

  • Provide occupational therapy as mandated by the IEP
  • Provide occupational therapy for indicated children both individually and in groups and using both a push-in and pull-out therapeutic format
  • Record occupational therapy time frames by signing each child in/out for therapy sessions

Paperwork

  • Secure prescriptions for all children and assure they are uploaded into the EasyTrac Data Base System before starting occupational therapy services
  • Complete all indicated paperwork to include EasyTrac session notes, Progress Reports, Turning-5 Reports, Quarterly Report Cards, Rationales etc. according to indicated time frames
  • Complete therapy attendance cards submitted monthly to the designated Administrative Assistant
  • Complete occupational therapy evaluations when indicated and all other paperwork deemed necessary to the functioning of the program

Collaborative Activities

  • Provide teachers, peers and parent consultations as indicated
  • Participate in all indicated meetings, i.e. Team, Teacher/Clinician, Special Review CPSE/CSE etc.
  • Participate in the Evaluation/Intake Team if indicated
  • Participate in all mandated training courses both discipline and agency specific
  • Continue to enhance professional development through workshops and training designed to learn and apply new knowledge and skills that will assure optimal service delivery
  • Continue to meet NYS License requirements by engaging in continuing education needed to maintain a current NYS license

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Able to provide effective therapeutic interventions for young children in the areas of professional discipline
  • Able to conduct appropriate assessments for young children in professional discipline
  • Able to maintain indicated levels of productivity and adhere to regulatory mandates
  • Able to provide quality supervision to COTA and/or graduate level OT students if indicated
  • Able to effectively engage with families and respect family confidentiality and issues of cultural diversity
  • Able to be a Team player with the ability to develop strong working relationships with employees across all locations and disciplines

EDUCATION

  • M.S. Occupational Therapy Degree; School accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE))

EXPERIENCE

  • Experience working with children presenting with fine motor and sensory disorders

LICENSES/CERTIFICATION

  • NYS License in Occupational Therapy
  • National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT- certification)
