Senior Accountant

JOB SUMMARY

Perform professional accounting work and coordinator responsibility of the Accounting Department. Liaison to all financial transactions and budgetary control for assigned funds and departments. Ability to assist, direct and coordinate all staff of the Finance Department. Reconcile and maintain integrity of general ledger. Prepare financial report statements and analyses. Ensuring that grants expenditures is within budget. Assist with submitting monthly claims for outside funding sources. Assist with payroll, accounts payables, general and fiscal operation. Prepare Consolidated Fiscal Report (CFR).

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Reconcile and maintain integrity of general ledger.
  • Post and allocate accurate and timely information.
  • Make necessary adjustments and journal entries.
  • Reconcile and balance interfund, payroll, receivables, payables, and fixed assets monthly.
  • Coordinate with Billing Coordinator all claims for booking as a journal entry.
  • Maintain monthly Balance Sheet Account Analysis
  • Maintain 941 analysis.
  • Prepare financial reports, statements, and analyses.
  • Create financial statements to include balance sheet, income statement, financial position/budget variances and monthly inventory evaluations by 10 working days after the month’s closing.
  • Distribute monthly financial and reports to Department Heads.
  • Maintain and secure accounting records.
  • Complete bank reconciliation including investment schedules.
  • Assist with preparing monthly claims for government and other outside agencies.
  • Ensure accuracy and timelines of claims.
  • Ensure all monthly, quarterly, and annual reports are completed.
  • Generate other related reports for government and outside funding sources.
  • Prepare Audit report, statement, and analysis.
  • Ensure audit confirmations are completed.
  • Ensure all reconciliations are completed prior to fieldwork.
  • Assist auditors during their field work and analysis.
  • Prepare financial reports.
  • Prepare Board reports.
  • Prepare all audit schedules.
  • Assist with Single audit.
  • Assist with 5500 Audit.
  • Assist with 990 Tax Return.
  • Prepare Consolidated Fiscal Report (CFR).
  • Prepare Semi-annual CFR Report for accurate allocation.
  • Prepare annual CFR report for SED and OMH Departments and other programs.
  • Liaison for payroll and accounts payables functions.
  • Coordinate general and fiscal operations maintaining records for insurance and related information.
  • Cross train to assist other staff.
  • Maintain paperless filing system.
  • As needed, make bank deposits.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Ability to work with external Auditors.
  • Ability to train staff.
  • Maintaining an accurate and timely general ledger.
  • Closing monthly general ledger and preparing financial statements by the 10th of the following month.
  • Preparing claims for outside agencies
  • Ability to follow through on work assignments.
  • Meeting deadlines on a timely basis.
  • Pleasant and cooperative attitude with co-workers and staff.
  • Ability to deal professionally, courteously, and efficiently with the public and to remain calm under stress including all personality types.

Qualifications

  • B.A., degree from an accredited college or equivalent experience, preferred.
  • Accredited college or business school courses in accounting functions and applications with at least three years paid employment experience as an Accountant.
  • Hands on experience and working knowledge of computer soft/hardware and applications, specifically: Automated accounting packages Excel and Word.
  • Must have demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks and independent assignments.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Human relations skills to deal effectively with clients, outside agencies, and staff.
